Motion in One, Two and Three Dimensions
When a point object is moving in space, its position at an instant can be described with the help of its instant can be described with the help of its three position coordinate (x,y,z) which are changing with time . Its may be note than the position of the point mass object change even due to change in one or two of three position coordinates. Accordingly we have three type of motion.
1) One dimensional motion- The motion of an object is said to be one dimensional motion if and only one out of the three coordinates specify the position of the object change with respect to time.
In such a motion, the object moves along straight line or well defined path. Therefore, one dimension motion is sometime known as rectilinear and linear motion.
For Example- A man walking on a level and narrow road

2) Two Dimensional Motion- The motion of an object is said to be two dimensional motion if two out of three coordinate specifying the position of the object change with respect to time. In such motion, the object moves in plane.
For Example- A ball is throw by a boy

3) Three Dimensional Motion- the motion of an object is said to be three dimension if all the three coordinates specifying the position of the object change with respect to time. In such a motion, the object moves in space.
for Example A Flying aeroplane or bird

Note. The path followed by a point object during its motion is called trajectory.
